Both of us (Philomena & Keith) are a husband/wife team who decided to take up photography as a hobby in the year 2008. Since then, this has grown into a deep passion that pushes us to do as much photography as we can, at every possible opportunity that we get. Over the years that have passed, we have dabbled in several genres of photography, – landscapes, portraiture, action, nature and wildlife, fashion, rock and jazz concerts, cultural activities – to name some of them; and have enjoyed every single minute along the way. What started as a very frustrating beginning (because we were unable to get the kind of pictures we wanted to make) has now turned into a very satisfying feeling; but there is still a burning desire to go as far as we possibly can in this vast arena.
The most striking thing about our journey on this path has been the fact that today we both see the world very differently as compared to before we started on this hobby. Today, for us, everything has a certain beauty about it, no matter how plain, rugged, or miserable it may seem to others. We are able to recognize this beauty, and are trying to work hard towards being able to create this awareness to others through the pictures we make.
We have been fortunate to be able to travel a little bit, have made some great friends along the way, and have been associated with some extremely helpful and encouraging people in this field, people who have helped, coached and guided us, and given us the assurance that we were doing just fine…especially when it made no sense to us at all.
The road we have travelled has been kind to us. Phil’s picture has claimed 1st prize at the RAK Photo Competition. My pictures have thrice been nominated by Fotoflock (India’s largest imaging portal) for picture of the year; have had notable mentions in the Emirates Photography Competition 2012, and the Fujeirah Photo Awards 2012. Both Phil and I have a month each dedicated to our pictures for the Al Ain Zoo photo competition 2012. We have had our pictures exhibited by the Sharjah Art Foundation for the Vantage Point Sharjah Photo Exhibition. We have also been fortunate enough to have a few of our images recognized by National Geographic and featured in the Daily Dozen.
Strangely enough, we both use different equipment. Phil started out as a “Sony” user, but has since migrated to the Nikon system. I, on the other hand, have been a die hard Canon fan. We both still use the Sony from time to time; we have also acquired a Fuji X100, which we find an absolutely classy piece of equipment; – but for the bigger occassions it is always the Nikon and Canon that travels with us.
To conclude, we feel that that our journey has just begun. We now realise that there is so much that the world has to offer, and we would be extremely satisfied if we were able to cover at least a fraction of it, so that we could share this with our friends and well wishers.
